That's harsh. My guess would be to apply to a LOT of outside merit scholarship.

Explain your situation to the college? And well, it's tough, but scholarships and lots of them! |

Either a) explain your situation to colleges, apply to worse colleges and get more aid
- or (and this is what I'd do) -
b) Apply to the colleges you love and GUILT your parents into paying for you. This is your future, and your parents brought you into this world. It is not morally right for your own parents to deny you opportunity - it doesn't even follow primitive survival tactics. Parents are pretty much programmed to want to see their offspring succeed/survive. |

Um, I wouldn't say that parents are programmed to want to see their offspring succeed/survive, or any of that. Some parents are just plain irrational. Being in such a situation is extremely tough, but what I would say is that you ought to ask your parents to help you pay, anyways. I realize you guys don't get along, but you must face the facts and realize that you must try to get along if you want to have some help in college costs, whether you'd like to or not. It'll not only help you out financially, but even help foster the ties between you and your parents.
However, if you've tried that, try harder. But if that doesn't work, I would call the admission officers to ask for aid and what to do. Since this is a private manner that cannot be verified by simply attaching an explanation onto your app., you ought to SOMEHOW verify that your parents won't pay with the financial aid officers at your prospective schools. You can perhaps do this by perhaps having your parents write a letter to the schools, explaining so and signing it...or...somehow.
But don't despair. My parents won't help me pay for college either since they don't have the resources to, so I'm applying to about 50-60 scholarships. You should do the same. |
